I was inspired to share something I learned over the weekend.
First let me give you a little context...
My husband & I went to Arkansas for 5 days on a trip that my husband and I have been asked to go on for 10 years. 😲 We were visiting my husband’s best friend (and locker partner) from 8th grade where he's made his home since graduating from law school back in the 80s.
Since my husband and I dated in college, his friend and I go back a few years too. And we see his friend once or twice a year when he comes to visit his mom & sister who lives near us. For 10 years, he has asked us to come visit him at his home in Arkansas.
We've always made excuses for not being able to take the trip:
But finally, this year, we decided to MAKE THE TIME to take the trip. And what happened was magical.
This trip turned out to be one of the best trips we’ve ever done.
It allowed us to truly reconnect with old friends and reminisce on stories from our past. I learned about some of their hilarious escapades I never had heard before, and we laughed A LOT.
It makes me sad to think we waited so long and may have completely missed out on this adventure if we kept making excuses.
Another reflection I had on this trip was about how important it is to stay focused on your relationships. The couple we visited are still in parenting mode, with teenagers still at home. Since I’ve been an empty-nester for a while now, I forget how parenting mode can really take you away from the quality time you have with your spouse.
Parenting is like a business. As a parent, you’re the CEO of raising your family. It was really good for this couple to disconnect from their busy, parental life and take four days to reconnect.
Whether you’re still parenting or not, we’re all busy with life. It’s important that we take the time to reconnect with the people we love.
What have you been too busy for? Is there something that you keep saying no to over & over? What adventure is waiting for you if only you would say yes?
Take a minute to imagine what would happen if you said YES.
We don’t know how much time we have. We only have this moment. We might not have tomorrow.
So do the thing you’ve been putting off. Make those reconnections. Call that old friend, say YES, make those plans, and enjoy the fun adventures as they unfold.
I dare you to take action TODAY.
And I promise, you will be so happy you did!
