Distracted Dreamer

You are what I call a Distracted Dreamer and although you are great at doing what most empty nesters don’t - DREAMING - you lack the wherewithal to take action on your dreams!

The problem most Distracted Dreamers face is that they haven’t developed the planning skills they need or they have a false belief that their dreams are impossible so they’ve never bothered to put a plan together.

So that is the fulfillment struggle Distracted Dreamers face… Could it be that you don’t believe your dreams are possible?

Read on to see if you are playing the empty nester role of a Distracted Dreamer…

The Distracted Dreamer desires a better future and spends a lot of idle time imagining what that will look like, but she is inconsistent in her quest to obtain it. She knows a solution is out there, but she is frequently frustrated because she doesn't know how to find it.

She also is often confused, or goes back and forth, on what exactly it is that she wants, but she yearns for something different than what she has. She often spends time scrolling inspirational social media posts and watching motivational videos but she doesn't take any real action.

She's probably created a vision board (or is a pro at creating Pinterest boards), and she dreams about having the material things she's put on it, like the second home on the beach, the European cruise, or the shiny new car. She imagines what it would be like to have a life with these things in it, thinking they will bring her the fulfillment she craves.

But without a game plan for success or any real meaningful goals defined, she likely spends her time on “busy work”, sidetracking her from figuring out her true life's purpose—the work that will light her up.

Unfortunately, all of this meaningless activity will never move her forward but she already suspects this.

If you are a Distracted Dreamer, you are not alone! The truth is quite a few people get stuck here, but the good news is that you DO dream because the majority are unable to get their brains in a dream state.

So your challenge will be getting yourself out of DREAM mode and into DO mode!

One action I recommend is to seek out like-minded women your age who will inspire you to set goals and make a plan - women who have similar values and dreams. Find them on social media, in books, and on podcasts. Look around and make it a fun research project!

I also suggest you find authorities on planning for success so you can begin building that skill. Check out the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear.

If you like what you've heard so far from me, you may want to tune into my podcast, "Living Your Sparked Second Half," where I interview women who have found unexpected fulfillment in their second half of life and hear how they made that happen.
