My Miracle Mornings Have Begun

I’ve been reading a book called The Miracle Morning and I love it! I’ve learned a lot of things from this book so far and I’ve started to implement a few that have made a HUGE difference in my life this past week.

The first thing I do is meditate for 10 minutes. I’m using a guided meditation app that I downloaded to my phone because, if you're anything like me, I have a monkey mind which has a hard time being still. It's hard for me to concentrate and focus on meditation type behavior so the guided meditation really helps

Meditation forces me to free my mind from thoughts. I LOVE MY WORK and I usually jump right into it first thing but I’ve found that I need meditation to quiet my mind and prepare for the day ahead.

After my meditation, I do affirmations for about 5 minutes. I've done affirmations in the past but they've fallen by the wayside. As with many things, if you haven't really developed the habit, then you get busy and...

Today's lesson from Calm:

"One of the challenges of meditation is stopping and taking the time to do it. For many of us putting a pause on productivity is difficult. We love to feel like we're getting somewhere and accomplishing things. 

We've become addicted to visible progress; therefore sitting and meditating to some might appear to be inactive and unproductive. There's nothing further from the truth.

The daily rush against the clock creates the illusion that the more we do and the more we accomplish is what drives our success. This is a misinformed and counterintuitive belief. 

As we fill up every moment, we leave no space to observe what's going on in our minds and bodies. No opportunity for clarity or insight. No room for rest, recovery, or healing. Or for creativity and and new ideas to be born. 

So there is tremendous value in this time you're spending in stillness and non-doing."

How Not Your Average Grandma Came About

I recently had a light bulb moment and I realized I've never really shared how Not Your Average Grandma came about. It's been sort of a long and winding road but before I start I have three questions:

  • Have you spent a majority of your life focused on being the best mom, like THE BEST mom in the world?

  • Have you spent another large portion of your life climbing the corporate ladder and trying to be the best, most fantastic worker in your company?

  • Have you ever woken up one day and realized you're just not happy?

If that's you then you're the reason I created this page because that was me and I remember the day that it all changed: November 3, 2006.

It’s been 11 years ago so a lot has happened since then. I'm happy to tell you that I got unstuck! I've grown & changed a lot since that day so that was really my breaking point.

This excerpt from "The 12 Week Year" hit a chord with me...

In 2011, the average American spent 2.8 hours a day watching TV. That's 12% of our lives - and that number does not include the hours spent on the newly available entertainment devices such as smart phones and tablets. We often watch TV to escape and to relax. We do it partly because it's easy; we don't have to do anything except change the channel. The TV may be beneficial in some ways, but helping us to live a life of significance isn't one of them."

Wanna Know Why I'm So Excited This Morning?

Wanna know why I’m so excited this morning?!!! Because I am FINALLY putting into motion something that I should have done awhile ago…

The reason I’ve not taken action on it is because I kept thinking too small! I kept thinking I don’t need it yet. I kept thinking, I can’t afford it.

It’s the cousin of that negative voice in your head. It’s the voice that keeps you in your comfort zone. The voice that convinces you that things are just fine the way they are. #goaway

But a couple of weeks ago I started to really listen… Not to the comfort zone scaredy-cat inside my head but to a balls-to-the-wall entrepreuner who shared WHY I need to take this step. (And it’s a she so she really has no balls to take to the wall but if she had them, they would be ON THE WALL for sure!!!)

Find People Who Bring Out Your Authentic Self

One thing I love about my husband is that he brings out my most authentic self. I'm not sure why but I remember feeling that from the first moment I met him when I was 18 years old. 

We connected in a way that was so REAL and RAW... He knew me to my depths and it felt so freeing.

When I started dating him again almost 30 years later, that feeling returned and man was it ever AWESOME!!!

Find people who bring out your authentic self. The world will be better for it and so will you!!!

Her First Stocking at 78 Years Old!

We had a special guest last night and Santa made sure she had a stocking filled with goodies. It was nothing special! Make up remover wipes, Altoids, nail files, slipper socks, a dish cleaning brush, and some other trivial things. 

We took turns emptying the goodies, one at a time, and with each item she squealed with glee like it was exactly what she was wanting. When we were done, she looked at me and said: "This is my first stocking I've ever had." 

It broke my heart a bit when she said that. You see, my mother-in-law is the sweetest woman ever and dotes on her sons, grandchildren and now 6 great grandchildren every holiday. She is the biggest giver I've ever known. 

I am so thankful she finally got her first stocking. And I guarantee there will never be another Christmas without one.

It's the Simple Stuff that's Most Important!

What did I do today you may wonder? It was important stuff!!!

First I got the tangles out of 2 My Little Ponies, then I braided one's mane & tail. (Had to brush up a bit on my braiding skills!)

Then I built a Lego tower almost as tall as my oldest grandson!!! And it stood all on its own - after a few tries!!!

And I just got my youngest grandson to stop crying in the car! (Nannie's special touch!)

I'd say it's been a productive day!!!
